Der vorliegende Band versammelt Beiträge zum Einfluss einiger einschlägiger Thesen der französischen Humanwissenschaften der Postmoderne auf die Entwicklung neuerer literaturwissenschaftlicher Methoden und ihrer Anwendung. Zur Sprache kommen dabei Ansätze, die aus ganz unterschiedlichen Wissensdisziplinen stammen: aus der Anthropologie, der Philosophie, der Soziologie, der Psychoanalyse, der Ethik, der Historiographie und der Wissenschaftsgeschichte. Behandelt werden ausgewählte Werke von René Girard, Michel de Certeau, Jacques Derrida, Michel Foucault, Roland Barthes, Jean Baudrillard, Cornelius Castoriadis, Jacques Lacan, Emmanuel Levinas, Michel Serres, Gilbert Simondon, Bruno Latour und Gabriel Tarde.

Rainer Zaiser ist seit 2005 Professor für Romanische Philologie mit dem Schwerpunkt französische und italienische Literaturwissenschaft an der Christian-Albrechts-Universität zu Kiel. Nach dem Studium in Tübingen, Florenz und am Bryn Mawr College in Avignon folgten Promotion und Habilitation in Tübingen, Professoren-Vertretungen an den Universitäten Regensburg, München und Köln sowie 1999–2005 eine außerplanmäßige Professur an der Universität zu Köln.
